Cafe Kitsune

Cafe Kitsune is quite well known to locals and tourists but somehow I could never get a seat at their Omotesando location. 

My last visit was a lucky shot on a quiet weekday and I was able to drop in. 

Their coffee was good plus their honey toast was a nice little treat! 

Saturday Surf NYC x Daikanyama

The first time I discovered Saturday Surf NYC was through Nathan Williams of Kinfolk's Instagram post. I thought, what a beautiful space, doesn't look like Japan. 

Little did I know it was a men's apparel store that happens to have a cafe in it. 

    

The shop/cafe, located approximately 10 minutes away from Daikanyama station,

has a beautiful patio overlooking Tokyo city.  

I spent about a good hour sketching and relaxing on SS NYC's patio. Sipping coffee outdoors really reminded me of life in Canada, where I'd spent hours outdoors and coming up with great ideas for my next painting. 

Although Daikanyama slightly intimidates me with all its fancy shops, I will definitely bring friends back here for a nice cup of coffee and good conversations.

Streamer @ Gohongi

I'm already a big fan of Streamer Coffee Company but I was ecstatic to find out that they decided to open a new location in my train line. Streamer Gohongi, located under the train tracks of Gakugei-Daigaku station 

is their most attractive location yet.

As much as I love their coffee, the space was what drew me in the most! Decorated in a warehouse like feel, Streamer Gonhongi consisted of a 2 story spacious lot.

Great coffee. Suave space for me to spend my precious day off. 

Courteous staff and talented barista. Seriously couldn't ask for more.

Coffee, lately

In both June and July, I went on a coffee frenzy. I've had  chance to commute to downtown Tokyo
several times and I have been collecting my data! Here are a few places I stopped at recently.

Makers Coffee, Yoyogi-Koen.

Cool space and great coffee. They have a pretty cool table for people who love to get their coffee fix
and work on their project! Too bad that half the time I'm there, they're closed.

New Coffee Steppers, Harajuku.

This place was an absolute surprise! I walked around the busy neighborhood and stumbled upon
this little gem of a coffee shop located inside a design store. New Coffee Steppers is a little shop created by the
owners of Little Nap in Yoyogi-Koen.The barista was kind enough for me to snap a picture
while she made her free pour! Absolutely gorgeous!

Sarutahiko, Ebisu.

This tiny coffee shop is located in the posh neighborhood Ebisu. It's quite a popular and
long standing coffee place with wide selections.  It was absulutely crowded so I was glad
we were able to get some seats! Really great mocha here!

So glad Japan's coffee scene is starting to pick up!

streamer coffee company

Time to hop another cafe. For my latest expedition, I hopped Streamer Coffee Company in Shibuya.

I've always wanted to try this place out since it is owned and operated by Hiroshi Sawada,

Japan's very first free pour latte art champion. 

The cafe indeed lived up to its reputation. We were lucky enough to get latte made by Mr. Sawada

himself. I must say this is the most beautiful latte art I've ever seen, so precise and crisp.

The latte was smooth and delish as well!

If you are around the Tokyo or Osaka area, be sure to check Streamer Coffee out, it's totally worthy!

the roastery by nozy coffee

first cafe hop of 2014!

I've always wanted to try Nozy Coffee but it's a little outside my usual route. I was ecstatic to find out that the roastery, an affiliate cafe of nozy has opened up nearby Meiji-jingumae.

the verdict? awesome. I would say that they kept their coffee menu pretty minimal with only espresso, americano and caffe latte. The Roastery offer single origin coffee plus they roast on site, which basically made the whole place aromatic. I had my 12 oz latte with a side of banana muffin that reminded me of my time in toronto.

great coffee with lots of seating in a cool and suave atmosphere. definitely worth a visit, only minutes away from meiji-jingumae station.

Streamer Coffee Company

My cafe hop continues! This time I visited the renowned coffee shop, Streamer Coffee Company. 

The barista and founder of Streamer, Hiroshi Sawada was 2008's Free Pour Latte Art champion. His coffee was indeed great! I ordered this delectable mocha served by their finest barista. The location I went to was the one in Harajuku, but Streamer has two other locations in Shibuya and Osaka.

this 3 story cafe is cool yet cozy. one thing is there aren't too many seats but a great place to chat with friends or enjoy the atmosphere. definitely a must go to cafe in Japan!

fuglen tokyo

Honestly, I think I have found the best cafe in Tokyo.

Fuglen Tokyo, located in Shibuya, is a branch of the Oslo-based cafe/bar.

Staying true to Nordic design, Fuglen is cool and modern yet warm at the same time.

Taken up on Good Coffee's advice, I couldn't resist paying a visit when I happened to be in the Shibuya area.

Fuglen's mocha was smooth and mildly sweet from the perfect steam milk. 

Whether you're a coffee nut like me or an alcohol lover, you'll definitely be entranced with Fuglen. Don't forget to swing by when you're in Shibuya. Highly recommended!

Little Nap Cafe

This week, I hopped another gem of a cafe in the middle Tokyo. 

Little Nap Coffee Stand serves great tasting espresso in a cool + hip atmosphere.
Located in the hidden alley nearby Yoyogi park, Little nap offers authentic latte
I have been searching for!

I ordered a latte which was carefully crafted by Little nap's barista while my friends
tried their lemonades, served in Mason Jars. 

 

Definitely recommended and will make a comeback here soon!
